BUILD INSTRUCTIONS
Advice from the experts
Spare screws are included with each part. Occasionally, you may be instructed to keep spare or unused screws for a later stage. Keep these spares in a safe place and label them correctly.
Please make sure you don’t mix up the screws. They look quite similar, but the threads do vary slightly. Using the wrong screws may damage the parts. Only use the correct size screwdriver that fits the screw head firmly.
When securing parts together using multiple screws, fit each screw loosely to ensure all the parts are correctly aligned before gently tightening them firmly, but not overtight, in the order in which you placed them.
If the paint on the painted screws is scratched during the build, you can repaint it with Sand yellow (RAL 1002).
The screwdriver can be magnetized by stroking it with a magnet (fridge magnet, etc.) enabling it to hold the screws and make assembly easier.
If a screw is tight going into a metal part, do not force it as you may shear the head off. Remove it and put a tiny smear of Vaseline, soap or light oil on the thread. That will lubricate it and make it easier to tighten.
Some parts will require a little glue for assembly. Please apply glue sparingly and use a cocktail stick so that you don’t use too much nor apply the glue too heavily. We recommend superglue gel or Extra Thin Liquid modeling glue. Where possible, parts should be test-fitted in place before gluing.
Make sure you have good ventilation when using adhesives and to replace caps firmly.
Use a magnet to help find screws that have fallen on the floor.
Use masking tape to hold parts temporarily in place.
Cut parts from a sprue (framework) with side cutters or a craft knife. Side cutters tend to be easiest.
During the course of this build, you will receive many pieces that you will assemble immediately – following the instructions in the corresponding stage – and other pieces that you should store safely to one side, for use in future assembly stages.
Always protect the paint finish on components by placing a cutting mat, sheet of white paper or soft cloth on your work surface.
When plugging cables in, ensure the power is switched off. Tweezers can be used to fit the PVC cables by gripping carefully around 5mm from the end of the cable. If a cable needs to be removed from a socket, do not pull on the cable as this could damage the connection. Grip the plug with tweezers to remove it.
Left and Right! When building your SAS Willys Jeep, the left- or right-hand side refers to that side as if you are sitting in the car.
When you see this symbol, pay attention to the instruction text in bold and check the orientation of the parts in the image as this will be particularly important for assembly in later stages.
WARNING: Some parts are assembled using magnets. These magnets can cause serious injury if they are swallowed. Keep away from children. If you suspect a magnet has been swallowed, seek medical help straight away.
This is not a toy. Not suitable for children under 14 years old due to small parts. Adult supervision required.
STAGE 84 PARTS
Step 1

STAGE 85 PARTS
Step 1
Place part 84-A in a bowl of hot water to soften it.
After 1–2 minutes, remove part 84-A with tweezers then dry with a cloth.
Step 2
Fit part 85-A to part 84-A.
Step 3
Fit part 85-B to part 84-A. Ensure the screw holes are aligned.
Step 4
Squeeze the parts together and fix with 4 BM screws.

STAGE 86 PARTS
This stage contains both black and painted yellow DM screws. These have been labelled DM (B) for black and DM (Y) for yellow in the instructions.
Step 1
Ensure part 86-C is in the orientation shown for the next step.
Step 2
Fit part 86-C to the jeep (stage 83) with 4 DM (Y) screws.
Step 3
Fit the spare wheel (stage 85) to part 86-C.
Step 4
Fit part 86-A onto the spare wheel with 1 KM screw.
Step 5
Fit part 86-B to the spare wheel.
Step 6
Screw two nuts 86-E onto rod 86-F, as shown.
Step 7
Insert the rod through the two holes circled in the images.
Step 8
Screw a third nut 86-E to the rod, then tighten the two nuts fitted in step 6.
Step 9
Assembling the twin Vickers K machine guns
Fit one of the machine guns from stages 79 or 80 to part 86-D with 2 DM (B) screws.
Step 10
Fit the other machine gun to part 86-D with 2 DM (B) screws.
Step 11
Fit part 86-G to the machine guns with 2 AM screws.

STAGE 87 PARTS
Step 1
Fit the machine gun (stage 58) to the assembly with 2 DM screws. Do not overtighten the screws.
Step 2
Assembling the twin Vickers K machine guns
Note that parts 87-B have recesses on one face, as indicated by the red circles.
Step 3
Fit part 87-D to one part 87-B, with the recesses facing downwards.
Step 4
Fit the assembly to the twin machine guns (stage 86) with 2 TM screws.
Step 5
Fit part 87-C to the other part 87-B, with the recesses facing downwards.
Step 6
Fit the assembly to the twin machine guns with 2 TM screws.
Step 7
Fit the two pan magazines (stages 63 and 64) to the machine guns.

STAGE 88 PARTS
Step 1
Place part 87-A in a bowl of hot water to soften it.
After 1–2 minutes, remove part 87-A with tweezers then dry with a cloth.
Step 2
Fit part 88-A to part 87-A.
Step 3
Fit part 88-B to part 87-A. Ensure the screw holes are aligned.
Step 4

Step 5
Fitting the twin Vickers K machine guns
Fit the twin machine guns (stage 87) to the assembly with 1 DM screw. Do not overtighten the screw.

STAGE 89 PARTS
Step 1
Ensure part 89-C is in the orientation shown for the next step.
Step 2
Fit part 89-C to the jeep with 4 DM screws.
Step 3
Fit the spare wheel (stage 88) to part 89-C.
Step 4
Fit part 89-A onto the spare wheel with 1 KM screw.
Step 5
Fit part 86-B to the spare wheel.
Step 6
Assembling a pan magazine
Fit part 89-E to part 89-F with 1 RP screw.
Step 7
Fit part 89-D to part 89-F.
Step 8
Fit part 89-H to part 89-G.
Step 9
Peel the backing paper from part 89-J, then stick part 89-J to part 89-G. Remove the protective top layer.
Step 10
Cut 12 cartridges (parts 89-I) from the sprue.
Step 11
Place the 12 cartridges on part 89-G, spacing them evenly, as shown.
Step 12
Fit part 89-F to part 89-G. Align the notch as shown.

STAGE 90 PARTS
Step 1
Fit part 90-B to part 90-A.
Step 2
Assembling a pan magazine
Fit part 90-D to part 90-E with 1 RP screw.
Step 3
Fit part 90-C to part 90-D.
Step 4
Fit part 90-G to part 90-F.
Step 5
Peel the backing paper from part 90-I, then stick part 90-I to part 90-F. Remove the protective top layer.
Step 6
Cut 12 cartridges (parts 90-H) from the sprue.
Step 7
Place the 12 cartridges on part 90-F, spacing them evenly, as shown.
Step 8
Fit part 90-E to part 90-F.

STAGE 91 PARTS
Step 1
Note that parts 91-C and 91-D have different diameters, as indicated in the image.
Step 2
Thread part 91-C onto part 91-E, as shown.
Step 3
Thread part 91-D onto the other side of part 91-E.
Step 4
Fit part 91-F to part 91-E. Take care when stretching part 91-E, as shown in image b.
Step 5
Position part 91-B, as shown.
Step 6
Slide the assembly onto part 90-A (stage 90), as shown.
Step 7
Fit part 91-A to part 90-A.
Step 8
Installing the jerry cans into the jerry can holders
Take the remaining 8 jerry cans from stages 39, 41, 42, 74–78.
Step 9
Place 3 jerry cans into the jerry can holder, as shown.
Step 10
Thread the strap through the opening.
Step 11
Peel one part 91-G from the backing paper.
Step 12
Stick part 91-G to the end of the strap, as shown.
Step 13
Fit a fourth jerry can into the jerry can holder, then pull the strap tight.
Step 14
Remove the protective top layer from the double-sided tape, then fasten the strap.
Step 15
Repeat steps 9–14 on the opposite side.
Step 16
Fitting the Bagnold sun-compass
Fit the Bagnold sun-compass (stage 22) to the dashboard.

STAGE 92 PARTS
Step 1
Fit part 92-E to part 92-B in the orientation shown.
Step 2
Fit part 90-A to part 92-B.
Step 3
Fit part 92-A to part 92-B with 3 DM screws.
Step 4
Fit part 92-D into part 92-C.
Step 5
Fit the front sight to the machine gun assembly with 1 ZM screw.
Step 6
Note that part 92-H has a protrusion on one side.
Step 7
Fit part 92-H, with the protrusion facing downwards, to the machine gun assembly with 1 TM screw. Do not fully tighten the screw.
Step 8
Fit part 92-K under part 92-H. Fasten part 92-H with 1 TM screw, then fully tighten the two TM screws.
Step 9
Turn the assembly over and fit the second part 92-H with 2 TM screws.
Step 10
Fit the two parts 92-I to the assembly with 2 LP screws each, as shown.
Step 11
Fit part 92-L into the small hole in the orientation shown.
Step 12
Fit part 92-J to the assembly.
Step 13
Fit part 92-F to part 92-G with 1 LP screw.
Step 14
Fit part 92-F to the assembly with 1 DM screw.
